X-Press Feeders taps Huangpu Wenchong for six methanol dual-fuel containerships

Eastaway, the shipowning arm of Singapore’s X-Press Feeders, has ordered six 1,250 teu methanol dual-fuel newbuild containerships at CSSC-affiliated Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding.

The first boxship will enter X-Press Feeders’ Europe trade routes by the second quarter of 2025, with all vessels joining the fleet by the third quarter of 2026.

The ice class newbuilds will adopt the Sdari Sealion CV1250 methanol dual fuel design and produce about 75% less emissions when operating on green methanol, X-Press Feeders said.

X-Press Feeders is the world’s largest independent common carrier with a fleet of more than 100 vessels. Alphaliner lists the carrier as the 17th largest in the world.

The Sea Consortium-controlled feeder operator is taking a number of proactive steps to reduce the environmental impact of its fleet and becoming net-zero emission by 2050, including nuclear power, methanol-powered newbuilds and carbon capture retrofits.

X-Press Feeders will continue to look at ways to further invest resources to reduce emissions through more efficient operations and promoting sustainable practices throughout our network,” said Shmuel Yoskovitz the company’s chief executive officer.
