The US Energy Information Administration (EIA) has predicted that exports of US liquefied natural gas (LNG) will increase by a factor of seven in the next three years, according to the Houston Chronicle.
This increase will be made possible by more gas super-cooling facilities coming online.
Five new facilities expected to become active should contribute to seeing the US’ volume of exported LNG increase from 1.4 billion cubic feet of gas per day to 9.5billion cubic feet per day by the end of 2019.
That would make the US the world’s third biggest LNG exporter.
Along the way, at a point this year, the US will pass a milestone by exporting more natural gas than it imports.
The EIA, based in Washington, is an agency of the Federal Statistical System. It collects, analyzes and disseminates energy information to promote sound policy, efficient markets and public understanding of those aspects of the energy industry.
