Advice for those mulling offshore entry

Singapore: The coming year is by common consensus going to be at best a flat one for bulkers, tankers and the container trades. At worst, it could be a bloodbath. Given the pessimism it is unsurprising that so many traditional owners are eyeing the offshore sector. However, a leading offshore broker has some advice for those contemplating diversifying their earning base.

Mike Meade, managing director of Singapore-based broking firm M3 Marine, told SeaShip News: “Next year will see more and more blue sea owners try to dip their toes into the offshore game. To succeed they need to realise the difference between ploughing the oceans and providing an ‘in your face’ service, where the customer is with your vessel every day.”  [31/12/12]
