Amogy and Southwind form offshore wind pact

Amogy, an American startup focused on developing ammonia-powered ships, and Southwind have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore joint opportunities in the offshore wind market.

Amogy said in a statement that the two would use the MoU to establish a foundation for future collaboration and explore joint opportunities for mutual promotion and advocate for offshore wind.

As the global offshore wind industry continues to rapidly expand, Southwind aims to establish Kristiansand as an operational base for offshore wind field developments and as the preferred hub for a Norwegian national competence centre.

Amogy, which expanded its operations to Norway in 2022, further stated that the offshore industry holds great potential for its ammonia-to-power technology and that the company had formed multiple strategic partnerships to explore the application of its technology in this sector, like the ones with Yara, Marco Polo Marine, and Southern Devall among others.

“Our partnership with Southwind marks an exciting chapter in our journey to establish ammonia-to-power as a game-changing solution for the offshore industry,” stated Christain Berg, managing director of Amogy Norway.

“By combining our expertise and resources, we are confident that we can play a pivotal role in advancing the development of offshore energy and in establishing ammonia as a zero-emission solution for this industry,” he added.

Amogy had an important milestone last month as it won the first pre-order of its much-touted ammonia-based power systems from an undisclosed Norwegian ship owner.
