Authorities continue to investigate Suez smash

Cairo: The captain and first officer of a UASC containership remain in police custody facing questions after their ship collided with a fishing vessel in the Red Sea, killing at least 13 Egyptians, though the final death toll could be as high as 20.

Initial enquiries show the fishing boat capsized following the collision with the 6,900 teu ship near Ras Ghareb about halfway down the Gulf of Suez.

A spokesperson for UASC told GulfShip News that there was no damage reported on its vessel, Al Safat.  [17/12/14]
