Avenir LNG CEO steps down

Peter Mackey will be stepping down as chief executive of small-scale liquified natural gas player Avenir LNG.

Mackey was first appointed CEO on an interim basis in November 2020, replacing Milorad Doljanin. He will remain with the company until the end of the first quarter of 2024 to support with the leadership transition.

Commenting on the move, Mackey, said: “Avenir is about to enter a new phase of growth and I think it’s the right time for a new leader to take the company forward. It has been a huge privilege to lead Avenir and I’ll be cheering on from the sidelines to see where it goes next.”

The five-ship-strong London-based company was set up in 2018, backed by blue-chip sponsors Stolt-Nielsen, Golar LNG and Höegh LNG.

Avenir LNG’s commercial director, Jonathan Quinn, has been appointed as interim CEO until a permanent replacement is found.

Udo Lange, chief executive of Stolt-Nielsen will also join the Avenir board as director, replacing Jan Engelhardtsen who stepped down from his position in November.

Niels G. Stolt-Nielsen, chairman of Avenir LNG, added: “During Peter’s time with Avenir it has grown into one of the leaders in the small-scale LNG market today. I would like to thank him for his contribution to the company over the years and wish him every success for the future.”
