Barge runs aground off Singapore

Singapore: Salvors are working to free the Singapore-registered barge, POE Giant 12, that ran aground amid bad weather yesterday at Pedra Branca, Singapore.

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) has said there have been no reports of oil pollution or injury.

The barge was carrying two bulk loader cranes, having departed Singapore on December 25 for Kuantan, Malaysia.

Adverse weather conditions forced the barge to turn back towards Singapore. It subsequently ran aground at Pedra Branca at 6.45am local time on Tuesday morning.

The MPA is conducting further investigations into the incident, the authority said today. [31/12/14]
