Beks takes Japanese-built capesize bulker

Turkey’s Beks Ship Management & Trading is pressing ahead with its fleet expansion by adding a 17-year-old Japanese-built capesize bulk carrier.

Multiple brokers reported the Ali Bekmezci-led firm had picked up the 2005 Namura-built 176,800 dwt Santa Lucia from Mitsubishi Ore Transport in a deal worth in excess of $16m.

The fast-expanding outfit has been the most active Turkish player in the secondhand market, with 12 ships coming in this year, according to sale and purchase databases.

Following the latest deal, the Istanbul-based company’s mixed fleet stands at 42 ships, including 17 bulkers and 25 tankers.
