Bibby orders first Damen service operations vessel

Bibby Marine Services has ordered a service operations vessel (SOV) from Damen Shipyards, which the yard says is “the first vessel purpose-built for the transfer and accommodation of offshore personnel”. The contract price was not disclosed.

The vessel, to be named Bibby WaveMaster 1 (pictured), will be delivered in 2017 and will undertake offshore wind project work in the North Sea.

The 90-metre-long SOV will be installed with ‘walk-to-work’ access, low-energy consumption features and a dynamic positioning system calibrated for work in the Baltic, Irish and North Sea areas, where the vessel will have a minimum 80% working operability, Damen said.
