Bruno Chabas calls time after 12 years as CEO of SBM Offshore

SBM Offshore is getting a new chief executive officer as Bruno Chabas has decided to step down after 12 years at the helm.

The Dutch floater giant said Chabas will not seek a fourth mandate at the end of his current term on April 12, after which the company’s current chief of operations, Øivind Tangen, will step up to take the CEO role and chair of the management board.

Tangen joined SBM Offshore 21 years ago. He has been COO and a member of the management board since 2022, and before that, he was responsible for SBM Offshore’s FPSO fleet.

SBM Offshore’s management after the switch will continue as a two-person board consisting of the Tangen and chief of finance, Douglas Wood, with Chabas as an advisor.

Commenting on his upcoming departure, Chabas said: “It has been a huge privilege to serve the company as CEO for the last 12 years, where I had the honor to lead a team of dedicated people who supported me in transforming and turning this organization around. Today, the Group has a well-established vision, purpose, and structure with a leading market position and strong growth prospects in the industry.”

“Under Bruno’s leadership, the company navigated numerous challenges, and Bruno leaves the organisation as a leader in the FPSO market and an established energy transition company with a clear strategy and strong financial position,” added Roeland Baan, chair of SBM Offshore supervisory board.
