Bumi Armada and Pertamina link up on Indonesian FLNG project

Malaysian floater specialist Bumi Armada has signed a non-binding deal with Pertamina International Shipping and gas trading company Davenergy Mulia Perkasa to develop and commercialise liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the Madura field and its surrounding fields in Indonesia.

Under the deal, Bumi and Pertamina will design, construct, install and operate a floating natural gas liquefaction and storage facility, together with an LNG carrier to transport LNG to consumers who are not close to clean energy sources.

Preliminary discussions have been initiated with potential off-taker clients and the first shipment of LNG is expected three years after making final investment decision, Bumi said.

Bumi Armada currently owns and operates the only floating LNG terminal in Malta. In Indonesia, the company is providing the Karapan Armada Sterling 3 FPSO for the Madura BD field operated by Husky-CNOOC venture.

Meanwhile, Pertamina has ownership in floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) at Jakarta Bay, with 60% share in PT Nusantara Regas and Perta Arun Gas which is a subsidiary of Pertamina Gas as the operator of Arun LNG terminal. The state-run company also operates the Bontang and Tangguh LNG facilities and has recently agreed to buy part of Shell’s stake in Abadi LNG project.
