Cadeler clinches more than $550m worth of Hornsea 3 contracts

Denmark-based offshore wind installation player Cadeler has sealed two contracts worth over €500m ($549m) with compatriot utility Ørsted for the Hornsea 3 offshore wind farm in the UK.

The first contract is for the transportation and installation of all monopile-type foundations on the project. This will be the first time the Oslo-listed BW Group-backed company will be in charge of the whole T&I foundations scope and become a full-service provider in the offshore foundation business.

The project, for which Cadeler was reserved back in August 2022, is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2026 and finish by the end of the year.
The companies officially put pen to paper at a live ceremony at the WindEurope Exhibition in Copenhagen.

The second contract is for the installation of around half of the wind turbines. The turbine project utilising one of Cadeler’s newbuild vessels should start around the fourth quarter of 2026 and finish in 2027.

The nearly 3 GW Hornsea 3 will be located in the North Sea, some 120 km off the Norfolk coast and 160 km off the Yorkshire coast. The project will include up to 231 offshore wind turbines and will be capable of generating electricity enough to meet the average daily needs of over 3m UK homes.
