Cadeler inks new wind turbine installation contract in Poland

BW Group and Scorpio-backed offshore wind installation player Cadeler has signed a contract with Ørsted and PGE (Polska Grupa Energetyczna) for the Baltica 2 offshore wind farm project in Poland.

The Oslo and New York-listed contractor has been selected to transport and install 14 MW Siemens Gamesa turbines for the approximately 1.5 GW wind farm in the Polish part of the Baltic Sea.

Last year, Cadeler firmed up its entry into the Polish offshore wind sector with a contract for the Baltic Power project developed by the PKN ORLEN and Northland Power joint venture.

Commenting on the latest deal, Mikkel Gleerup, CEO of Cadeler, said: “The project marks a very important milestone for Poland as well as for Cadeler, as this underlines Cadeler’s strong entry into the Polish market.”

Baltica 2 is one of two – along with Baltica 3 – phases of the Baltica offshore wind farm. Developers plan to complete construction of the Baltica 2 stage by the end of 2027 and the Baltica 3 stage with a capacity of about 1 GW by 2030.

With the Cadeler contract, Ørsted and PGE Group have secured vessels to install the second part of the wind turbines for the Baltica 2. In early January, the contract to install the first batch of turbines was awarded to Norway’s Fred Olsen Windcarrier. The duo has also lined up all other offshore installation contractors and construction is set to start once a final investment decision has been made.
