Dalian: China should expand its traditional shipbuilding industry and develop more types of ship to build, said Fang Shujia, deputy board chairman of China's Society of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering.
China has became a leader in the shipbuilding industry, but still needs to develop itself as a strong nation in the global ocean economy, said Fang, in spite of improving the value-added technology of the three traditional ship types, the shipbuilding industry in China should develop new products.
Passenger vessels, luxury yachts, fishing boats, working boats, river ships and offshore steel structures could be a new direction for Chinese shipyards, he said while speaking at a session at yesterday’s Shiptec China in Dalian. [23/10/14]
