Capital Gas back at Hyundai Mipo for more liquefied CO2 carriers

Greece’s Capital Gas Ship Management Corp has returned to Hyundai Mipo Dockyard in South Korea for two more liquefied carbon dioxide (LCO2) carriers.

The Ulsan-based yard said the Evangelos Marinakis-led company had signed up for a pair of 22,000 cu m ammonia and LNG-ready units, with delivery expected in July and November 2026.

Capital Gas ordered the first two ships in July last year, paying about $141.5m, while the latest duo came at $152.5m.

The low-pressure LCO2 carriers, which can also carry LPG and ammonia, are a joint project between Capital, Hyundai Mipo and class society Lloyd’s Register and are so far the largest ships of this type on order.

Comments

  1. Find this a bit odd, how can they be low pressure CO2 carriers? The triple point of CO2 won’t allow carriage below 5 bar.
