Cardiff Marine orders two aframaxes

Athens: Economou-led Cardiff Marine has ordered two 115,000-dwt aframax tankers from China’s Jiangsu Hangtong shipyard for $46.5m each for delivery in 2017.

The contract includes options for two further vessels, according to brokers’ reports.

The deal comes in addition to a four-vessel order Cardiff placed at the yard in early July for four aframaxes at the same price, also for 2017 delivery.

Including this order, Cardiff’s firm tanker orderbook now stands at 10 aframaxes, plus two MRs and two suezmaxes.

The Athens-based owner is also awaiting delivery of eight capesize bulk carriers and two 11,000-teu ‘new panamax’ containerships.
