Beijing: China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) has signed a $480m agreement with Kenya for the construction of three berths of Lamu Port under the Lamu Port–South Sudan–Ethiopia Transport Corridor Project (LAPPSET).

The three berths will serve general cargo, bulk cargo and container cargo. The construction work will start in September 2014.
The LAPPSET will create the Great Equatorial Land Bridge, connecting east and west coast of Africa and is one of the major flagship projects of the country that will ultimately transform Kenya into a middle income, globally competitive and industrializing country with a high quality of life in the next 16 years.
