Chevron charters Solstad derrick lay barge in Thailand

A derrick lay barge owned by Solstad Offshore is to be employed in Thailand on a four-year contract with Chevron Offshore (Thailand) and Chevron Pattani.

The contract includes three one-year extension options, but its value was not disclosed.

From 2016 onwards, the barge DLB Norce Endeavour (pictured) will install new wellhead platforms and subsea pipelines for Chevron in the Gulf of Thailand, the number of which will depend on the oil major’s production requirements.

The forecast utilisation for the vessel is around 200 days, with mobilisation set for January, Solstad said.

Solstad’s Singapore office will provide project management, engineering, procurement and logistics through its DLB Marine Projects group to support the barge’s installation and construction work.

“The contract represents a continuation of the strong relationship between Chevron and Solstad which began in 2014 when Norce Endeavour performed its first seasonal campaign in Thailand,” Oslo-listed Solstad commented in a filing today.
