China supporting Iran’s plans to transform Jask port

Dubai: China is to help Iran build an industrial complex at the southern port city of Jask.

"Iran and China will set up an industrial town in Jask port to establish and develop different industries, including petrochemical, refinery, aluminum and steel industries," Iran’s Minister of Industries, Mines and Trade Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh said yesterday.

In August, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani announced plans to turn Jask into an economic and industrial centre and the country's second oil export hub.

"By implementing the plan, exports of oil won't rely on just one port and one place (the Kharg Island) in the Persian Gulf and through the Strait of Hormuz, but it will also be available through the Sea of Oman," Rouhani said on a recent visit to Jask.  [20/01/15]
