Chinese banks signs major deals in Greece

Athens: Several major banks in China have signed a number of financing deals with Greek companies during Chinese premiere Li Keqiang’s visit to Greece this week.

China Development Bank has inked deals including a $1.5bn agreement with Costamare to support five of its newbuild containerships and a $1.4bn agreement with the Ministry of Shipping of Greece on the terminal expansion project at Piraeus Port.

ICBC Leasing, the financial leasing arm of ICBC, reached an agreement with Libra Group to provide financing support for six newbuilds ordered at Chinese shipyards and it signed with Diana Shipping for a $200m financing deal.

China Exim Bank has also signed a $400m financing deal and a $57.36m financing deal with Thenamaris and Oceanbulk respectively. [20/06/14]
