Chinese rank high in new tonnage study

Singapore: Chinese shipowners have two of the podium places in a brand new study detailing the richest fleets in the world. Maritime CEO, a sister title of SinoShip, has linked up with UK ship pricing system VesselsValue.com to bring readers an exclusive insight into the world’s 50 richest owners by tonnage owned.

Timed to coincide with the greatest shipowner gathering of them all, Posidonia, the annual roll call of the world’s wealthiest shipowners in terms of ships owned sees Cosco and China Shipping in second and third place. Cosco ranked number one in terms of the number of ships and deadweight of its owned fleet. Sinotrans&CSC is in 20th place while there is one Hong Kong company, OOCL, in the list and two from Taiwan, Evergreen and Yang Ming.

Readers can find out about the leading global fleets with details on value and size, broken down into ships afloat and on order. What’s more, this is just a start. While this inaugural list is derived from five sectors that VesselsValue.com currently tracks, going forward the data will become richer.

Richard Rivlin, CEO of VesselsValue.com, says the online ship pricing site will add offshore, car carriers and reefers by the end of the year.
