Cosco opts for 9,400 teu quintet

Shanghai: Continuing its newbuild spree China Cosco Holdings has put pen to paper for five 9,400 teu boxships at Jiangnan Changxing Shipbuilding to the north of Shanghai for a total of $434.5m. The ships, priced at $86.9m each, will deliver in 2016 and 2017.

In recent weeks Cosco has made clear it is keen to get back into expansion mode after a tricky couple of years. This has seen it order four ultramaxes at Guangzhou Wenchong and four 320,000 dwt VLCCs at Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co.  [29/01/14]
