CSD finalises orders for Yamal LNG carriers

Shanghai: China Shipping Development announced that three single vessel joint ventures it established with MOL, Arctic Blue LNG Shipping, Arctic Green LNG Shipping and Arctic Purple LNG Shipping, have signed shipbuilding contracts with Korea’s Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering for the construction of three 172,410 cu m LNG carriers. Total value of the contracts is about $932m.

The three vessels are expected to be delivered in March 2018, December 2018 and December 2019.

According to the contracts, the vessels will be chartered to Yamal Trade Pte from the delivery dates to December 2045, with options to extend the contracts for another ten years. MOL Bulk Carriers will provide shipmanagement services for the vessels.

Yamal LNG project has planned to order 16 LNG carriers. Teekay and CSD have ordered 9 LNG carriers in total for the project, the remaining 7 vessels will be ordered by Russian owner Sovcomflot. [08/07/14]
