EDF Renewables, ESB, Reventus team up on 1 GW Celtic Sea floating wind farm

UK arm of EDF Renewables has formed a partnership with Irish renewable energy developer ESB and global offshore wind investor Reventus Power to develop the Gwynt Glas floating offshore wind farm in the Celtic Sea.

As a result of the partnership, the three will own a 33.33% stake each with DP Energy as a development partner in the project. The trio expects to bid on the 1 GW project in The Crown Estate’s Leasing Round 5.

EDF Renewables is already working with ESB on other projects such as the Neart na Gaoithe offshore wind farm currently under construction in the Firth of Forth and the Stornoway onshore wind farm in the Western Isles.

The company also previously worked with Reventus Power on France’s first floating offshore wind farm, Provence Grand Large.

“As ESB drives towards its Net Zero by 2040 target, it is recognised that offshore wind will be a crucial contributor to that goal. Floating offshore wind has the potential to turn the dial, not just here in the UK but also in Ireland where we have one of the best floating offshore wind resources in the world,” said Jim Dollard, executive director of generation trading at ESB.
