Taipei: Taiwan-based Evergreen Marine, France-based CMA CGM and UAE-based Emirates Shipping Line have signed a vessel sharing agreement to expand Asia-East Africa container services.
The two new services are scheduled to take effect in December.
Evergreen Marine is to double its weekly Asia-East Africa shipments from one to two per week, one of which will terminate in Mombasa, Kenya; the other in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania.
The company says it hopes this change will help lower the impact of port congestion in East Africa and improve the operation of the route.
The first weekly shipping string will have the following port rotation: Port Klang, Malaysia – Tanjung Pelepas, Malaysia – Singapore – Colombo, Sri Lanka – Mombasa – Port Klang, Malaysia.
This route will be served by five 2,500- to 2,800-TEU container vessels, three of which will be supplied by Evergreen Marine, one from China’s COSCO Group, and one from Singapore-based X-Press Feeders.
The second weekly service will be: Singapore – Tanjung Pelepas, Malaysia – Port Klang, Malaysia – Colombo, Sri Lanka – Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania – Singapore.
This string will be served by six 2,500 to 2,800-TEU vessels, four of which will be from CMA CGM and two from Emirates Shipping Line. [27/11/14]
