FilterSafe: High costs of entry to ballast water treatment sector

Haifa: While the industry appears awash in technology firms offering solutions to ballast water at the moment, getting into this niche is not easy, due to the high costs of entry, argues the Israeli ceo of a leading filter company in today’s Maritime CEO.

Etai Dagan heads up Haifa-based FilterSafe, which specialises in the production and sale of automatic filters for ballast water treatment (BWT), oil and gas and pre-filtration for the water treatment industry.

“No doubt other filter providers are trying to enter the market. However, this industry of BWT is heavily regulated and the barriers to entry are high,” Dagan says.

Filtersafe is gearing up for the competition by slashing prices and also FilterSafe is opening its second production plant in Hong Kong, which will double its production capacity and reduce delivery times.

The company’s filters meet the requirements of all types of vessels, from small ships to VLCCs. It also supplies filters to meet the highest safety standards of ATEX zone 1 and 2 as well as IEC-EX including zone zero.
