Flex LNG secures charter extension with supermajor

John Fredriksen-backed Flex LNG has won an extension for the charter of its 173,400-cu m LNG carrier Flex Resolute.

According to data provided by VesselsValue, the charterer of the LNG carrier is UK supermajor BP which exercised its first two-year extension option.

Flex LNG said that the vessel was fixed on a three-year time charter from November 1, 2021, with the start of the charter in January 2022. Under the time charter, BP had options to extend the period by up to four additional years in two-year periods.

Following this option declaration, Flex Resolute is on a fixed-hire contract until at least the first quarter of 2027. The charterer will then have a final option to extend the charter by another two years until 2029.

Currently, the company has a fleet of 13 LNG carriers which together have, as stated on the Flex LNG website, 50 years of minimum contract backlog which may increase to 72 years with charterers’ extension options.

For 2024, the charter coverage for Flex LNG will be 95% after the Flex Constellation carrier is redelivered to the company during the second quarter of 2024.
