George Procopiou signs for 10 kamsarmaxes at Hengli

George Procopiou’s bulker arm, Sea Traders, has firmed up an order for 10 kamsarmaxes at the reborn Chinese shipyard Hengli Heavy Industry.

A deal follows on from the letter of intent signed with the yard formerly known as STX Dalian earlier this year.

The Procopiou family, which also controls Dynacom Tankers Management and Dynagas with a total fleet of more than 170 vessels, is paying around $35m per ship.

The 82,000 dwt units will add to Sea Traders’ fleet of 38 bulkers when delivered between 2025 and 2027. The Dynacom unit has also been hard at work putting its strong tanker earnings to good use with orders for 10 firm and four optional LR2s and a pair of VLCCs in China.

Meanwhile, Hengli Shipbuilding has seen several orders for bulker newbuilds come in this year. Another Greek owner, Laskaridis Maritime, has also signed up for a kamsarmax quartet, while Germany’s Vogemann booked four 180,000 dwt capesizes on top of four kamsarmaxes.
