Haifa port workers end strike

Cairo: Workers at Israel's state-owned Haifa Port ended their strike on Tuesday, ending their protest against Tel Aviv’s port privatisation plans.

Israel's labour court ruled that the parties must hold talks over their employment conditions.

The port is now trying to handle around 20 ships that queued up on Monday.

On Sunday the Finance Ministry announced a three-year privatisation plan for state-owned companies that calls for selling off minority stakes in Ashdod port in 2015 and Haifa port in 2016.  [08/10/14]
