Hainan prioritizes shipping and logistics development

Guangzhou: Hainan province will prioritize the development of shipping and logistics industry as part of its strategy to transform its transportation industry.

According to a release from Hainan government, the island will focus on the development of shipping and logistics infrastructures including port facilities and logistics parks, with the goal of becoming a shipping and logistics hub in the Southeast Asia by 2020.

“Currently the logistics industry in Hainan is only at a preliminary stage, there’s not a single dedicated logistics park and the development of logistics informatization is lagging behind,” said an official from Hainan government.

The integration of the two major ports on the island, Haikou port and Yangpu port started earlier this year. Yangpu port is currently developing three 50000dwt berths and six 10000dwt berths which are expected to be completed in the first half of this year. [27/03/14]
