Hanwha Ocean taps SBM veteran to head up its offshore business

Hanwha Ocean has appointed Philippe Levy, the former president of SBM Offshore Americas, as president of its offshore business.

The South Korean builder formerly known as Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, said Levy’s appointment marks a pivotal moment for the company as it embarks on a journey to transition from a traditional shipbuilder to offer FPSO, FLNG, offshore renewables and other floating production units.

Levy brings in 25 years of experience from SMB Offshore, including president of the Americas division since 2020. He has also worked as executive advisor for China’s CNOOC in Guyana, during which he advised ExxonMobil, Hess and CNOOC on execution strategies for FPSO and LNG development.

“I believe in the company’s mission and vision, and I am excited to lead the offshore business into the next phase of growth and success,” said Levy.

Hanwha Oceans’ offshore division is currently headquartered in Seoul. The business recently expanded its global footprint by establishing new business centers in North America and Europe.
