Hapag-Lloyd eyes inland links

Hong Kong: The new Dutch ceo of Hapag-Lloyd, Germany’s premier containerline, is looking at boosting inland links in China. Speaking with SinoShip News, Rolf Habben Jansen, 48, who took the helm of the Hamburg-headquartered line this July, said: “The key challenge for us in China is are we going to do something on inland?”

Habben Jansen, a logistics veteran and the cover star of the latest issue of Maritime CEO magazine, expanded on why the boxline should develop its inland network.

“Manufacturing is going inland,” he said, “and we are more of a door-to-door carrier than others so we should go about it.”

In a wide ranging interview with our sister title, Maritime CEO, Habben Jansen discusses the merger with Chilean line CSAV and where he sees rates going next year. Habben Jansen is one of 17 shipowner profiles carried in the latest issue of Maritime CEO magazine, which is available for free to read here.  [08/12/14]
