Harald Solberg steps down as chief executive of Norwegian Shipowners’ Association

Harald Solberg has decided to step down as chief executive of the Norwegian Shipowners’ Association.

Solberg will leave the organisation founded in 1909 which counts around 160 members after six years at the helm to take over The Federation of Norwegian Industries.

The association’s board, led by Synnøve Seglem, the deputy CEO of Knutsen OAS Shipping, has already started the recruiting process for its next chief, but Solberg will continue in the position for the next 6 months, or until his replacement is in place.

Solberg took up the position of CEO of the Norwegian Shipowners’ Association in January 2018. From June 2016 through 2017, he was chief of the Royal Secretariat. He served as deputy CEO at the Norwegian Shipowners’ Association from 2015 to 2016, and from 2011 to 2015 as director of Industrial Policy and Communication.

“I have had a very exciting period as leader of the Norwegian Shipowners’ Association. Norwegian shipping is a leader in developing and adopting technology and new solutions to reduce shipping emissions. I am particularly proud of the way members in all segments are taking leadership and investing in future zero-emission solutions. The Shipowners’ Association has been a driving force behind good and competitive framework conditions for shipping and the maritime industry in Norway. I am happy about the broad political consensus in Norway that we will continue to be a strong maritime nation, the outgoing CEO Solberg remarked (translated from Norwegian).
