Hornbeck and Gulf Island to go to court over cancellation

Hornbeck Offshore has had a lawsuit filed against it by Gulf Islands Shipyards over the termination of contracts for the final two vessels in Hornbeck’s fifth OSV newbuild program.

Hornbeck had cancelled two MPSVs in the first quarter of this year, claiming performance issues at the yard.

In the lawsuit filed this week, Gulf Island Shipyards is claiming delay, hindrance, disruption and wrongful termination of the contracts.

“The company intends to vigorously defend GIS’s claims, considers them to be without merit, and will respond to GIS’s lawsuit in due course,” Hornbeck Offshore said in a statement.

Since the termination, Hornbeck has been looking to build the vessels elsewhere.
