iCON Infrastructure enters Italian port market

UK-based iCON Infrastructure fund has entered the Italian ports and logistics market trough the purchase of a 45% stake in the Spinelli Group.

Spinelli operates a container and multipurpose terminal in the port of Genoa and it’s also active in road haulage, freight forwarding and logistics activities.
The deal was closed few weeks ago but Italian entrepreneur Aldo Spinelli has only just revealed the sale to a local TV program.

Spinelli and iCON intends to further invest in ports and logistics in Italy and through Europe, and are also looking at opportunities outside the shipping market including the Genoa airport privatisation.

The board of directors of Spinelli Group welcomed two new members from iCON, Iain Ross Macleod and Ivana Semeraro, who join Roberto Spinelli and lawyer Antonio d’Angelo. Founder Aldo Spinelli will remain chairman of the company.

iCON is an independent investment firm with over €1bn under management, focusing on privately held investments in infrastructure assets in Europe and North America.
