Interlink orders 18 bulkers at three Chinese yards

Shanghai: American owner Interlink Maritime has ordered a total of 18 bulkers at three Chinese yards as part of its fleet expansion plan.

Interlink has signed $240m shipbuilding contracts with Zengzhou Shipbuilding for the contruction of five 39,000dwt bulkers plus five options. The vessels will be delivered from the end of the 2015 to the middle of 2016.

It has also exercised options for five 38,500dwt bulkers at Kouan Shipbuilding, bringing the number of vessels it has ordered at the shipyard to 15. Meanwhile, another three options were exercised for 38,500dwt bulkers at Huatai Heavy Industry, where it has another five vessels under construction at the yard.

Interlink currently operates five bulkers which were all built by Huatai Heavy Industry. [01/09/14]
