Iran frees Indian tanker

Dubai: Iran released an Indian oil tanker that was detained last month, because of concerns related to pollution, to end the dispute between the two countries, which have historical commercial ties.
The director of state-run Shipping Corporation of India (SCI), Captain Sunil Tahbar, said yesterday that the tanker, Desh Shanti, sailed on Friday having onboard 140 tons of Iraqi crude.
Tahbar declined to tell Reuters whether there were any demands about compensation for damages caused by pollution.
The tanker was shipping crude to Hindustan Petroleum Corporation.  [08/09/13]
