Jiuzhou Shipping sells last cape

Sources tell Splash a Fuzhou-based owner, Jiuzhou Shipping, has sold the 176,000 dwt Yuan Fu Star (built 2011) for $23m. The sale indicates an exit to shipowning by the low-profile owner. No taker has been identified.

This is the youngest cape sold this summer. Few takers have been identified in the cape S&P scene of late but both Chinese accounts and Middle East-based players are linked to purchases in the largest bulker arena.

Despite the depressed freight rate environment, the market for large dry bulkers has surprised many with sales registers noting over 60 capes sold so far this year, almost double the amount of transactions compared to the same period last year.
