Keelung to invest billions in port expansion

Taipei: The port of Keelung is planning to invest NTD10bn in port expansion.

The West 22 and 23 terminals will be dredged and a warehouse will be expanded.

The port will also strengthen the construction of cruise facilities to attract more tourists to stay longer at Keelung, an official from Keelung port said.

Keelung saw cargo traffic at its port plateau in the past decade thanks to the rise of nearby mainland ports and a limited road connection to the northern port. However, under a renewed trade focus, Taipei has designated a number of free trade zones across the island including Keelung.  [11/02/14]
