Kuwait rail link will sideline Basra port
Dubai: The vice president of the committee of the regions and provinces in the Iraqi parliament, Mansour Al-Tamimi, has warned that the implementation of a railway line project between Iraq and Kuwait could decrease the amount of work at Basra port.
Tamimi said in a press statement on Tuesday that this project has huge downsides, and that it will harm Iraqi ports as well as the Iraqi economy in general. Shippers are likely to shun Basra in favour of Kuwait, he argued. The rail connection would also make big plans to develop Basra port less likely to happen. [02/10/13]
