Kyoei Tankers books VLCC newbuilding at Namura

Kyoei Tankers, a unit of Japan’s NYK Group, has placed an order at domestic yard Namura Shipbuiding for the construction of a 310,000 dwt VLCC.

According to a report by shipbroking house Advanced Shipping & Trading, the scrubber fitted vessel is scheduled for delivery in 2021 and the price for the newbuild is $95m.

Kyoei Tankers currently operates a fleet of 15 vessels made up of eight oil tankers, two VLGCs and five bulk carriers.

The company is currently expanding its VLCC fleet and it is going to take delivery of three VLCC newbuildings from Namura and Japan Marine Untied this year.
