Lauritzen sells open hatch handy for a tidy profit

Niels Josefsen, the CEO of Lauritzen Bulkers, appears to have timed the market well. Broker sources tell Splash that the Dane is attempting to exploit the strong upward pressure on asset values for eco-scrubber-fitted tonnage.

Brokers report the outfit has sold a six-year-old, 36,200 dwt open hatch bulker, named Australian Bulker, for $24m, likely earning a couple of million on the deal.

Last August, the Copenhagen-based handysize player announced the delivery of a trio of ships, the 2017-built Asian Bulker, the Australian Bulker and the 2015-built Iceland Bulker, as the owner and operator quietly raided the fleets of Pacific Carriers and Grace Ocean, reentering the sector as owner after selling its remaining ships the year before.

Lauritzen Bulkers’ emphasis is on the handysize segment where it currently operates more than 100 vessels from five global locations.
