McDermott wins work on Malaysian carbon capture project

US subsea and deepwater engineering and construction player McDermott has been awarded an offshore contract from Malaysia Marine and Heavy Engineering (MMHE) for the Kasawari carbon capture and storage project, located offshore Sarawak in East Malaysia.

Under the scope of the contract, McDermott will perform transportation and the structural installation of a 138-kilometre pipeline section, a 15,000 metric tonne CCS platform jacket, and a bridge connecting to the existing central processing platform. No financial details were disclosed.

The installation activities will be performed by one of McDermott’s heavylift and pipelay vessels. Operated by Petronas Carigali, the Kasawari CCS project is expected to reduce carbon dioxide volume emitted via flaring by 3.3 metric tonnes of CO2 per annum.
