Metrostar contracts with New Times for suezmax series

Brokers report Metrostar Management has placed an order for two firm plus two options of China’s New Times’ 158,000 dwt suezmax design. Delivery of the firm units is scheduled from the end of 2021 with the options spilling into 2022.

No price has been reported for the contract although brokers indicate a price of around $57m per unit for the vessels which will come with scrubbers installed.

The last time the Greek owner, which is controlled by Theodore Angelopoulos, ordered new ships was back in April 2017, when it contracted South Korea’s Daehan Shipbuilding to build a pair of aframax tankers.
