Modern ultramax sold for firm $30m

Brokers report one rare modern ultramax sale, with a price tag to match the age.

Japan’s Daiwa Kisen is reportedly offloading the six-year-old, 64,000 dwt Federal Iris for a firm $30m.

By comparison, the same-sized, one-year-older Bulk Electra fetched $3m less a few weeks ago.

A month ago, Belgian Conti Lines tempted the market with the 61,000 dwt Iwagi-built Cl Ebisu. This ultramax was quickly reported sold for just under $27m to Pangaea.
