MSC adds two more ships

The world’s largest containerline, Mediterranean Shipping Co (MSC), remains very active in the secondhand market.

As week 16 starts its buying spree counts 11 ships so far this year according to VesselsValue, without counting data from MB Shipbrokes – formerly Maersk Broker – who note that the Gianluigi Aponte-founded line has secured two more ships, this time going for a 2007-built 3,586 teu ship named AS Nadia and the two year old younger 1,496 teu AS Ragna from MPC Capital. The latest two ships are the youngest ones that the giant liner has added this year.

MSC stands on the threshold of commanding a 20% global market share in the liner segment having bought some 350 secondhand ships in less than four years and ordering record amounts of newbuilds, with still 108 vessels due to deliver from yards in Asia.
