MTT Shipping orders up to six feeder boxships at Zhoushan Changhong

Malaysian containership operator MTT Shipping has entered into shipbuilding contracts with China’s Zhoushan Changhong International Shipyard for the construction of up to six 1,800 teu containerships.

The contract includes firm orders for two vessels and options for another four vessels, with delivery of the initial two ships scheduled in 2020.

MTT Shipping currently operates a fleet of seven feeder containerships and has four 1,160 teu containerships under construction at Fujian Mawei Shipbuilding. The newbuildings at Changhong will be the largest vessels in its fleet.

It is the second containership order Zhoushan Changhong has secured in a week. Last week, Singapore’s X-Press Feeders ordered six 2,700 teu vessels at the yard.
