Xiamen: The National Oceanography Center was established in Xiamen, Fujian province last Friday in an effort to boost the development of marine technology and innovation.
The center was jointly set up by the State Oceanic Administration, the Ministry of Education, the Fujian provincial government, universities and institutes with oceanography studies, including Xiamen University.
Fujian is the fourth pilot area for the development of a marine economy. The province has proposed to integrate three of its cities Xiamen, Zhangzhou and Quanzhou into a metropolitan area by 2015, in order to boost marine and port industries. [05/11/12]
