Noble’s strong January start continues with new jack-up deal

Offshore driller Noble has been awarded a contract with Wintershall Noordzee for the harsh environment jack-up rig Noble Resilient to plug and abandon two wells in the Danish North Sea.

Noble said via its social media channels that the contract had an estimated duration of 60 days, with an expected start in April.

The rig is completing a scheduled special periodic survey and undergoing repairs in Frederikshavn. The repairs were due to an incident on October 20, 2023, when a floating production vessel became unmoored and allided with the rig while in port in Frederikshavn causing what Noble at the time described as significant damage. There were no reported injuries.

This did somewhat impact the availability of the jack-up for further work but did not impact the contract Noble had at the time with Petrogas.

“We are happy to announce that the Noble Resilient will be back in action for this P&A operation in April. [A plan] for repairs is now in place which has provided a line of sight to firm up this contract with Wintershall Noordzee,” said Blake Denton, SVP of Marketing & Contracts.

Noble has been very active in January with several new agreements already in place. First, it agreed on a rig swap for an extended scope offshore Suriname, then – just yesterday – Noble secured a contract extension from LLOG Exploration for the Noble Valiant drillship.
