Norden bulks up with fifth cape

Denmark’s Norden has strengthened its dry bulk portfolio with the acquisition of a modern capesize.

The Jan Rindbo-led owner and operator has forked out over $70m to purchase the 2023-built Capt Tasos from Greece’s Transmed Maritime.

The 182,300 dwt ship delivered from Japan’s Namura in October is the company’s fifth cape since it marked its entry into the segment in March last year with the purchase of four ships built between 2011 and 2012.

Norden held seven bulkers at the end of the year, after significantly reducing its owned dry cargo fleet in 2022. Although 2015-built kamsarmax Nord Beluga is set to exit the fleet, the business has been progressively increasing its exposure to this sector, and in June last year, it booked six ultramaxes for construction at Dalian COSCO KHI Ship Engineering (DACKS) for delivery in the next two to three years.
